Sony Ericsson P990
Lets start our discussion here for that great Symbian smartphone...

SE needs to push the p990 to the market as soon as possible and to product a full range of smartphones in the near future. Otherwise Nokia will dominate for sure in this market...

For sure they need more smartphones, if the want to increase their market share in the specific market.
And now with the new UIQ 3.0 that supports phones with both touch screens and regular phones (Like Nokia Series 60) with one hand operation Sony Ericsson must take advantage off the new UIQ and release more smartphones in all the different styles… One basic disadvantage of the P990 for me and a lot others is the lack of EDGE…

A lot of people already are testing the P990 along with a lot of providers.
Not only that but they have access to online firmware updates. So far a new firmware is available every couple of days and each new release contains major updates and bug fixes. The phone is very stable now comparing to the first prototypes but not perfect… Still a couple of bugs… I can confirm that P990 has an "Always ON" SMS Delivery Report. Finally! I promised myself that I am not going to spend any more money on smartphones. I am quite happy now with my cute motorola V3.. In any other case I might buy a PDA. I was not entirely satisfied with my SEP900 that I had before. Let alone the fact that it was quite sensitive as a machine. Anyway.. no more offtopic from me!

Sony Ericsson delayed the P990 until Q2 of 2006.
The reason is that Sony Ericsson showed off the M600 to providers and the interest for that mid-range device was huge, especially from Vodafone… You know the story when the big red mama wants something fast, then everything else is just waiting… Anyway Sony Ericsson officially delayed the P990 for Q2. UIQ 3.0 is almost complete if not 100% complete by now and UIQ 3.0 SDK for developers is expected any day now... Except more news soon... Last edited by Nikos Kartalis; 07-03-2006 at 07:31 PM.
