Arrow 10 things about Nokia's iPhone

Infosync manage to collect some very interesting information about Nokia's "iPhone like" device. Have a look and read MiVADiKA's opinion about it:

1. Name

Combine the best functionality from the already existing Smartphone and Internet Tablet line-ups, and Nokia's new iPhone competitor would naturally be named "Nokia N900 Smart Tablet".

MiVADiKA.com : Very possible, however a completely new name is not going to be a surprise.

2. Design

With previous issues regarding the size of communicators in the 9000 series in mind, the N900 will copy the size of the iPhone. The current non-cellular N800 comes with a 4.1" display with a resolution of 800 by 480 pixels. The Nokia N900 will be a mini-version of the N800, with a 3.5" display, like the one iPhone has.

MiVADiKA.com : The screen size probably is going to be at 3.5" with resolution of 480x320, just like the iPhone . Also most likely the screen will cover the whole device and a touch sensitive D-pad will be there.

3. Web browsing

Opera will provide a full-fledged Internet browser, supporting all common standards.

MiVADiKA.com : We also know and confirm that the new version of Opera's Mobile browser will support all common standards including a build in plug-in with support for Adobe's Flash video(!) Now its up to Nokia to switch from their own open source browser (finding in S60 devices like N95) with the one from Opera.

4. Multimedia

The N900 will sport Nokia's Ovi 2008 Edition, providing a seamless, all-around media experience, from transfer to playback of media. A 3.5mm headphone jack will be incorporated, as well as 16GB storage capacity. For additional storage capacity, the N900 will host a miniSDHC slot. Streaming and sharing of YouTube videos (full and mobile versions) will be available through the Opera web browser. The N900 will also offer a camera/camcorder with the ability to upload mobile videos directly to YouTube.

MiVADiKA.com : For sure its going to fully support Nokia Ovi and the new Nokia N-Gage game platform. It will come with a 3.5mm headphone jack and most likely it will feature a TV out just like the Nokia N95. Also it will offer a minimum of 8GB (most likely 16GB like infosync states) of internal flash memory. Again for sure it will fully support any kind of Flash Video such as YouTube if they go with the upcoming Opera Browser.

5. Communication

A full suite of communication applications will be provided through the N900's operating system, including calling and messaging features such as SMS, MMS, e-mail and instant messaging. Additionally, the N900 will come preloaded with Skype. Social networks can be accessed through the Opera browser.

MiVADiKA.com : Nothing to say here its obvious. It will support all kind of communication such as SMS, MMS, email, voice calls and Video Calls. Instant messaging if not build in can be used with the installation of third party software, same for VoIP.

6. Connectivity

The N900 will come with support for Quad-band GSM, HSDPA, WiMAX, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

MiVADiKA.com : For sure it will offer Quad-band GSM at 850/900/1800/1900Mhz and the European 2100Mhz for 3G HSDPA, however we hope for support of all 3G and GSM bands in a single device, more specifically we hope for support of Quad-Band GSM along with Quad-Band 3G HSDPA offering support for 850/1700/1900/2100Mhz. (2100Mhz is for Europe and most of the world, 850/1900Mhz is AT&T's bands in the USA and 1700Mhz is the upcoming 3G band for T-Mobile USA)
The phone will also offer Wi-Fi (probably 802.11b/g) Bluetooth and GPS.
For the WiMax we beleive is too soon but if they offer it is great addition and more than welcome!

7. Operating system

The N900 will be powered by Smart Tablet OS 2008 (based on Maemo), featuring seamless synchronization with all computers and a full suite of communication and productivity applications. The N900 will also sport a new proprietary multi-touch user interface, developed by Nokia.

MiVADiKA.com : Here we disagree. Everybody is talking about Symbian S60 going touchscreen next year, not only that, S60 is the leading OS for Mobile Devices in the world, a great stable platform with a huge library of award winning third party applications, is basically what Windows are for computers. It just doesn't sound right that Nokia will release a flagship multimedia device with multi-touch user interface and is not going to be based on S60. We expect it to come with Symbian S60 v4 or something like that.

8. Third-party applications

Third-party applications will be available as Over-The-Air downloads through Ovi, as well as from software catalogs on the Internet.

MiVADiKA.com : If it is S60 it will offer a huge library of third party software covering all needs. Also no meter what the OS is, most likely it will support Java so any kind of Java application will be able to install.

9. Price

The Nokia N900 Smart Tablet will retail for approximately $750.

MiVADiKA.com : $750 sounds absolutely right.

10. Availability

The Nokia N900 Smart Tablet will hit store shelves in June 2008.

MiVADiKA.com : We would say in or after the second quarter of 2008.

Stay tuned for more regarding Nokia's upcoming smartPhone with multi-touch user interface.
