T-Mobile group with strong customer growth in 2006

The T-Mobile group has significantly increased the customer base in its markets through organic and inorganic growth and improved its market position as a result. At the end of 2006, T-Mobile recorded customer growth of around 23 percent compared with 2005, now serving 106.4 million customers including those at PTC in Poland and at tele.ring which was acquired in Austria. Adjusted for consolidation effects, customer numbers increased by 8.6 million or 8.8 percent. The share of contract customers increased to 49.8 percent. T-Mobile USA again played a key role in customer growth; with some 3.4 million net addition it increased its customer base by 15 percent to a total of 25 million.
Total revenue increased by 8.8 percent to around EUR 32 billion in 2006, reflecting a positive trend despite the intensified competitive environment in many markets. Data revenue excluding text messaging also continued to develop well: mobile broadband data connections generated revenue of around EUR 1.4 billion. This represents a year-on-year increase of some 50 percent. A total of 1.1 million customers now use the mobile Internet service web’n’walk.
