Peter Moore: EA Wants To Be The Biggest Sports Brand |
Aug 14, 2008 - 5:40 PM - by Nikos Kartalis
EA is trying to do good and compete well with the heavy competition in Sports video games era and if you consider Madden 09 the upcoming Fifa 09 EA Sports is doing quite well the last year.
Here is Peter's Moore interesting quote on EA as a sports Band:
EA has had an extremely successful sports brand for years, but we’re evolving with new experiences targeting new consumers in our space... There’s a hunger that fuels our teams to challenge to be the leading sports brand in the world... We need to knock down the barriers to those who find the learning curve of our games too steep, and find new areas in sports – and health and wellness — that our brand can truly make a difference.

PSP Gets A Ten-Year Plan As Well |
Aug 14, 2008 - 5:40 PM - by Nikos Kartalis
Sony aren't kidding around when they say the PS3 will have a ten-year shelf life. They mean it. It's hard-wired company policy, that comes straight from the top. What's not so widely known, however, is that it's a policy that is being applied to all PlayStation products. Which, yeah, includes the PS2 (which is nearly there), but also the PSP. Sony's Scott Steinberg:We do not have a planned obsolescence strategy [for the PSP]. Whether it's Skype or some other peripherals, it's not just a dumb terminal that lies secluded and isn't enhanced with all the recent technologies and opportunities.
Did he...did he just call the DS a "dumb terminal"?

FCC Confirms New PSP Model On The Way |
Aug 14, 2008 - 5:40 PM - by Nikos Kartalis
It's not the PSP-3000, but it's damn close! Documents published on the FCC's website have confirmed that Sony are to release a new model of the PSP, the PSP-3001. Before you ask, yes, the new PSP looks...a lot like your old PSP. There appear to have been no changes made to the exterior of the unit, nor to its core specifications, meaning the changes will be for less sexy things like cost-reduction (by using newer, cheaper components). Course, if that is your idea of sexy, there's a mountain of paperwork you can read up on at the link below while you get yourself all lathered up.

Sony Ericsson W350a showing up in AT&T stores this week |
Aug 14, 2008 - 5:14 PM - by Nikos Kartalis
Sources have whispered into our collective ears that the Sony Ericsson W350a will be showing up on AT&T shelves within the next few days -- "Friday at the latest" in at least some locations. Pricing is crazy reasonable for an EDGE phone with at least a half-assed sense of style and functionality, too: $19.99 on contract after rebate, yours in white or black.

Nokia promises to spill details on two new handsets next week |
Aug 14, 2008 - 5:14 PM - by Nikos Kartalis
Nokia isn't dropping many hints with this one, but it's apparently just let out word that it plans to show off two new handsets next Monday, with an actual launch set to follow a week later. Not one to let an opportunity for speculation go unheeded, The Boy Genius Report says it has a hunch that these may, in fact, be the N79 and N85, which were recently spotted alongside Nokia's XpressMedia 5800 "Tube" handset but very light on details. That certainly seems as safe a bet as any, and we certainly don't have very long to wait to find out for sure.

MetroPCS says "yes" to LTE for 4G |
Aug 14, 2008 - 5:14 PM - by Nikos Kartalis
Even casual observers may have noticed a pronounced trend in the 4G announcements lately: pretty much everything's turning up LTE. That's good news for global unity, infrastructure and handset development, roaming capability, and time to market, we figure -- and while MetroPCS' 4G declaration in particular really doesn't have a ton of bearing either way, it's just another tiny nail (call it a thumbtack, if you will) in UMB's coffin. The regional carrier used its second quarter earnings call as the venue to announce that it'll be transitioning to LTE for its next-gen footprint, and it won't be wasting much time, either. Said CEO Roger Lindquist, "I think the world is going there, the world phone will be a reality. I think you'll see some interesting developments here over the next six to twelve months." That's a ridiculously aggressive schedule, but it might be an easier one to stick to for a regional like MetroPCS with a smaller total upgrade expenditure. You know where to send the review handsets if that works out for you, guys.

Softbank lowers minimum iPhone 3G plans, begins taking reservations |
Aug 14, 2008 - 5:14 PM - by Nikos Kartalis
Softbank can safely say it has a pretty decent quarter here recently, but compared to NTT DoCoMo, it's looking weak. The exclusive iPhone 3G carrier in Japan has decided to answer outcries of "too expensive!" by lowering the minimum monthly data charge that each iPhone 3G user must pay. Previously, users were forced to hand over 5,985 yen ($55) per month for unlimited data; now, users can pay just 1,695 yen ($16) per month to cover 20,175 packets of data "after which users will pay per-packet until 71,250 packets, at which time the previous 5,985 yen charge is reached and further data use is not charged." In semi-related news, the carrier has also announced that it will begin taking reservations for the handset, so yeah, there's that.
